What are the olympiads?

Back in the ancient times, an Olympiad was a period of four years associated with the Olympic Games of the Ancient Greeks. Nowadays, the term 'olympiad' is used to represent both the original sports competition of the Olympic Games, and an academic tournament, national or international, in different subjects, such as Mathematics, Physics, English and other languages, and also Astronomy and Astrophysics.

You can see on the left multiple abreviations (IOAA, IAO, etc). You may recognise these olympiads. If you know other contests or exams related to Astronomy or Astrophysics, or have a suggestion in completing the existing rubrics, please follow the 'Have a suggestion?' button.
